The Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) warns the public against the activities of Brookfield99 / Brookfield Investment Management (cloned firm), a company that offers investment services.
Brookfield99 / Brookfield Investment Management (cloned firm) is not an authorized investment firm in Belgium. It is therefore not allowed to provide investment services in or from Belgium.
Moreover, according to the information available to the FSMA, the activities proposed could be of a fraudulent nature, i.e. boiler room fraud. More information on this form of fraud is available in the general warning published by the FSMA on 9 February 2017.
The FSMA thus strongly advises against responding to any offer of financial services made by Brookfield99 / Brookfield Investment Management (cloned firm) and against transferring money to any account number it might mention.
Brookfield99 / Brookfield Investment Management (cloned firm) uses the website www.brookfield99.com, the email address email@example.com and the phone number +33 9 74 48 36 74. It claims to have its registered office in United Kingdom (99 Bishopsgate, London) and in Luxembourg (6 Rue Eugène Ruppert).
This firm has, moreover, usurped the identity of the British firm Brookfield Investment Management, registered with the British supervisory authority (FCA). Identity theft is a common feature of the type of fraud known as "cloned firms": the identity of an existing person or company (a lawyer, an authorized firm, etc.) is usurped in order to give the appearance of trustworthiness or legitimacy, and thereby to convince investors.
Brookfield99 has already been the subject of a warning by the French supervisory authority (AMF), dated 28 December2016.
If you wish to check in general whether a proposed transaction complies with the financial regulations, please use the search function (available in Dutch and French only) on the website of the FSMA. You can also contact the FSMA directly using our contact form.
