The Chairman of the FSMA and of the IOSCO Board, Jean-Paul Servais, has been appointed Chair of the Corporate Governance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). His term of office will take effect on 1 January 2025 for a period of one year, renewable.
The Corporate Governance Committee consists of representatives of OECD member states, G20 and Financial Stability Board jurisdictions and a number of international organizations. It serves as the central forum for corporate governance matters at the international level. It coordinates and oversees the work of the OECD in the areas of corporate governance, corporate finance and state-owned enterprises.
In addition, the Committee promotes and monitors implementation of the G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance (which are the international standard in this area) and maintains internationally recognized reference works such as the OECD Corporate Governance Factbook and new key publications on global corporate sustainability.
The committee engages in active dialogue with a wide range of stakeholders and to that end regularly carries out initiatives and holds conferences to further promote the dissemination of the G20/OECD Principles.
“I am grateful and honoured to be entrusted with this role within this important committee. It is a great honour to succeed Mr. Masato Kanda, who played an instrumental role in ensuring the G20 endorsement of the OECD Revised Principles of Corporate Governance. The appointment is a recognition of the expertise and pioneering role of the FSMA in this area, and is also a fine illustration of the reinforced international impact of the FSMA, due to amongst others the chairmanship of IOSCO,” Jean-Paul Servais commented.
The OECD is an international organization made up of 38 members that works to establish evidence-based international standards and promote public policies intended to address global economic, social and environmental challenges. Mr. Servais will succeed Mr. Masato Kanda, Special Advisor to the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Japan and former Vice-Minister of Finance, whose current term as Chair of the OECD Corporate Governance Committee will end on 31 December, 2024.
