Legal advisor in the Supervision of asset management, savings products and bank investment products department

WHERE WILL YOU WORK?

The “Supervision of asset management, savings products and bank investment products” department is notably tasked with supervising management companies of undertakings for collective investments in transferable securities and portfolio management and investment advice companies.

WHAT WILL YOUR JOB ENTAIL?

  • You will be responsible for handling applications for authorization and for the ongoing supervision of a number of companies, ensuring the consistency of the FSMA’s supervisory practice.
  • As a legal advisor, you will pay particular attention to the companies’ business model and organizational structure, and to the activities and services they offer. In addition, you will scrutinize the companies’ quantitative reporting, where appropriate with the support of the economists within the department.
  • You will carry out a thorough analysis, based on applicable laws and regulations, of sometimes very complex issues.
  • You will also, in collaboration with the inspection team of the FSMA, help prepare inspections at these companies, potentially participate in them, and monitor their outcome.
  • You will work closely with colleagues from the department in charge of supervising public UCIs (or investment funds) and with colleagues from other departments, including those responsible for supervising compliance with conduct of business rules, perimeter supervision, and data analytics.

WHAT KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS DO YOU BRING?

  • A Master’s degree in Law.
  • Preferably at least three years of experience in the financial sector.
  • Affinity with the business models of the companies involved and a willingness to gain an in-depth understanding of their practical organization. Knowledge of the asset management industry is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, and a capacity for synthesis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a strong interest in presenting complex content in clear and unambiguous terms.
  • Interest in the challenges encountered in the world of finance (digitization, fintech, big data, etc.).
  • Ability to maintain efficient and professional contacts with financial industry players and to defend positions before your interlocutors.
  • Adaptability and attentiveness to interpersonal relations.
  • Affinity with the tasks in the public interest entrusted to the FSMA.
  • Solid competence in Dutch and a good command of French and English.
