Market Surveillance Officer for the Financial Markets Supervision Unit

WHERE WILL YOU BE WORKING?

  • You will work in the financial markets room of the FSMA, where you play a crucial role in supervising the financial markets, in particular Euronext Brussels. You will ensure that market events are conducted according to the rules.

WHAT WILL BE YOUR ROLE?

  • You will do prevention and detection of market abuse and surveillance of price sensitive information (MAR).
    • You conduct real-time market surveillance to identify unusual market fluctuations.
    • You monitor the timely disclosure, regular dissemination and storage of price sensitive information and intervene in case of incomplete/misleading information.
    • You manage situations of information asymmetry with possible trading suspension decision.
    • You have first line contact (formal and informal consultation) with listed companies.
  • You conduct investigations into insider trading and price manipulation.
    • You analyse a posteriori market behaviour and identify irregularities using detection software and data analysis.
    • You impose normative measures.
    • You prepare sanction files for Enforcement.
  • You monitor compliance with short selling regulations (SSR).
  • You supervise compliance with share buy back regulations (WVV).
  • You provide support on legal interpretations of financial regulations.
  • You cooperate with other European financial regulators and ESMA, in particular through MIWG (Market Integrity Working Group), to ensure market integrity. 

WHAT DO YOU BRING?

  • A Master’s degree in Law (additional financial specialization is an asset) or a Master’s degree in Applied Economics, Commercial and Financial Sciences or Business Engineering (ideally you will also have had supplementary legal training).
  • A strong interest in financial markets.
  • Equity and bond markets, derivatives, options/futures, crypto assets, ... are concepts that ring a bell with you. Knowledge of market abuse and shortselling regulations is welcome.
  • You have strong analytical skills and an eye for detail.
  • You have good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Your attitude is proactive and solution-oriented.
  • Experience in a similar position is a plus, but not a must.
  • You have a good command of Dutch, French and English.
