Expert Financial Reporting for the department supervision of the financial information

  • You would like to contribute to a well-functioning financial market in Belgium and to enhanced public confidence in securities markets
  • You are interested in financial reporting
  • You are a team player but also enjoy carrying out research independently

Then come and join the FSMA!

  • To make well-informed investment decisions, investors need reliable and accurate data on companies. If a company fails to comply with its disclosure obligations to the public, the FSMA may take action against it. The FSMA further contributes indirectly to improving the quality of financial information (by publishing recommendations, participating in (international) consultative bodies, etc.).

WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL?

  • Together with the other employees in the department, you will be responsible for supervising the information disseminated by companies listed on Euronext Brussels (consolidated financial statements, semi-annual financial reports, financial information published in IPO and takeover prospectuses).
  • You will analyze the operations of listed companies and the way in which they are reflected in their accounts.
  • You will verify whether investors receive appropriate information about these companies’ results, cash flows, positions and significant transactions.
  • You will examine whether published accounts or information gathered from the company and its statutory auditor reveal infringements of IFRS standards. You will discuss the information provided and the rules applied with the company and its statutory auditor. You will listen open-mindedly to the arguments put forward.
  • In case of infringements, you will make proposals of appropriate measures to the FSMA Management Committee.
  • You will prepare the consultations to be held by the FSMA within ESMA with its fellow European regulators on the consistent application of IFRS standards and participate in discussions with foreign colleagues.
  • You will participate in the ex ante examination of the contents of prospectuses to be published when a public offer is made, giving special attention to financial information.
  • You will regularly consult with your colleagues on the application and (potential) violations of IFRS standards and the best approach to improving financial information.
  • You will conduct thematic accounting reviews at different companies. On the basis of their results, you will make proposals to the FSMA Management Committee of recommendations to listed companies for improving financial information.
  • You will evaluate the valuations in takeover prospectuses, looking at their methodological completeness and internal consistency, and you will verify whether appropriate information is provided.
