News article

The FSMA is offering seminars for issuers concerning the legislation in the area of market abuse. The first of these was held on 21 November 2019 on the premises of the FSMA. Around one hundred representatives of listed companies attended. The Chairman of the FSMA emphasized at the beginning of the seminar the importance of a sound knowledge and application of the rules by the sector.

After the opening remarks, experts from within the FSMA gave presentations, with examples drawn from practice, about the various aspects of the legislation. The subjects addressed included reporting directors’ transactions and the rules governing communication and the postponement of market-sensitive information. The FSMA staff also explained the suspension policy and the investigations and decisions taken in the context of administrative sanction proceedings.

During the presentations, emphasis was placed on giving clear guidelines to enable listed companies to meet their obligations in full. Using a pro-active approach, companies can prevent incidents in the area of communication and reduce the risk of market abuse.

The session ended with conclusions offered by Ms Annemie Rombouts, the Deputy Chairman of the FSMA.
